Toffee White Chocolate Squares

Simple, sweet and sensational!  I made these today for a function and dinner wasn’t even over and the plate was empty.  So I would have to say they were a hit.

For these easy bars you will need:

3/4 cup butter, softened

3/4 cup packed light brown sugar

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 can sweetened condensed milk

2 tablespoons butter

1 cup white chocolate chips

1/2 to 1 cup toffee bits

Preheat oven to 350F.  Parchment line 13 x 9-inch pan,

In a medium bowl beat the butter and sugar together until creamy.  Add in the flour and beat well.  Mixture will be crumby looking.  Press into pan and bake for 20-25 minutes until light brown.

While mixture is baking empty condensed milk into a medium saucepan and add 2 tablespoons of butter.  Cook over medium heat until mixture thickens.  WATCH CAREFULLY AND STIR CONSTANTLY!  Mixture burns easily….luckily I had another can of condensed milk in the cupboard.

Pour the condensed milk mixture over the baked crust and return to the oven for another 10-12 minutes until golden. Remove from oven and sprinkle the white chocolate chips over top and return to the oven for about 3-5 minutes.

Remove from oven and sprinkle toffee bits over top and gently press the toffee into the surface.  An offset spatula works well.

Let bars cool and then refrigerate until chilled before cutting into squares.

Make sure you get a sample piece before setting out for your friends.  Or stash a few in the freezer to make sure you have when a craving hits.
